UPDATE 13:00 h: Nach unbestätigten Meldungen soll das fünfjährige Mädchen überlebt haben.
Seit gestern Abend senden Alarmphone und die NGOs „Mediterranea Saving Humans“ und „Sea Watch“ öffentliche SOS-Nachrichten über ein Flüchtlingsboot in Seenot im zentralen Mittelmeer. Sie vermelden, dass sich ein italienisches Kriegsschiff und andere Schiffe in der Nähe befinden, dass immer wieder Hubschrauber über dem sinkenden Flüchtlingsboot geflogen sind – und dass Hilfe nicht geleistet wird. Die Boat-people berichteten in der Nacht über Alarmphone und damit in die globale Öffentlichkeit, dass ein 5-jähriges Mädchen an Bord im Sterben liegt und weitere Kinder gesundheitlich schweren Schaden nehmen. Als die Sonne aufgegangen ist, steht um 8.25 Uhr immer noch ein Hubschrauber über dem Flüchtlingsboot, das kleine Kind ist inzwischen gestorben.
Am Vormittag beginnt das italienische Kriegsschiff – nach 23 Stunden in Warteposition! – die ca. 90 Boat-people zu retten. Die Rettung der Überlebenden erfolgt widerwillig und nur auf Druck protestierende zivilgesellschaftlicher Kräfte, die es geschafft haben, zumindest ein rudimentäres Monitoring in der Todeszone zu etablieren.
Die EU hatte ihre Militäroperation Eunavfor nach dem geretteten Baby „Sophia“ genannt. Alle europäischen Militäroperationen im zentralen Mittelmeer sollten nach dem Namen des heute Nacht verstorbenen fünfjährigen Mädchens genannt werden. Es hauchte sein Leben unter hilfeverweigernder, flüchtlingsfeindlicher Nahbeobachtung europäischer Militärs und Küstenwachler aus.
In einer vorangegangenen ähnlichen Situation, als nach einem Tag-langen Abwarten die sogenannte libysche Küstenwache eingriff und einen Push-Back organisierte, dokumentierte ein NGO-Flugzeug das Flüchtlingsboot in Seenot und das Ertrinken: Eine Stunde nach dem SOS-Ausruf akuter Seenot durch Sea Watch ertrank – in Anwesenheit des italienischen Kriegsschiffs „Bettica“ in 30 Seemeilen Abstand sowie verschiedener Frachter – zumindest ein Bootsflüchtling, siehe Video hier unten.

According to the #migrants, a 5-year-old girl has died on board. They also told us at 8.25h that the helicopter was still there and that the boat they saw was not a cargo but a military boat. We are quite certain it is an @ItalianNavy vessel, the P490. It has to rescue NOW!

Since this morning authorities are informed about this distress case. An Italian Navy vessel monitored the situation closely but did not render assistance. We condemn these repeated acts of non-assistance & demand the immediate launch of an adequate rescue operation.
The situation on board is deteriorating. At 23.47h the people told us that one of the tubes of the rubber boat burst. Water is entering the boat. They have no fuel left and cannot move. They say they won’t survive if they are out at sea the whole night.
At 00.13h we spoke to them again. They’re scared the children will die of hypothermia. There are 15 children, the youngest 9-months old. They moved the children to the corner of the boat where there is less water. One of the 20 women is pregnant & very sick. Do not let them die!
This is why the Mediterranean is the deadliest border in the world! @guardiacostiera was informed about this boat already at 10.23h CEST and yet no rescue has taken place. This policy of non-assistance has to end. Our last contact to the boat was at 00.47h – they are panicking.At 22.05h CEST the Alarm Phone was contacted by a boat in distress off Libya. The 90 people have seen multiple aircrafts and a military helicopter nearby. Based on their description of the boat we believe it is the same boat spotted by #Moonbird earlier.:::::
Migranti, nave militare italiana soccorre gommone in difficoltà. Ong: a bordo una bambina è morta
[…] Il pattugliatore ‚Cigala Fulgosi‘ della Marina Militare è intervenuta in soccorso dei migranti a bordo del gommone che da ieri si trova in difficoltà al largo della Libia.
Il recupero dei circa novanta a bordo è in corso. […] In precedenza, lanciando e rinnovando la richiesta di soccorso alla Marina militare italiana, le Ong avevano affermato che a bordo del gommone sarebbe morta una bambina di 5 anni. Nelle ore precedenti l’intervento del pattugliatore ‚Cigala Fulgosi‘, le Ong avevano denunciato come, pur essendo la nave nelle vicinanze, nessuno fosse ancora intervenuto in soccorso del gommone. […] „Le persone sono in grave pericolo – scrive su Twitter Alarm Phone, che è in contatto con i migranti a bordo – e sono ancora abbandonate in mare. Non c’è alcun soccorso in vista anche se vedono un elicottero“. E poco più tardi: „I migranti riferiscono che una bambina di cinque anni è morta a bordo. Alle 8.25 ci hanno detto che l’elicottero era ancora lì e di poter stabilire che la nave è un’imbarcazione militare. Siamo quasi certi che sia la P490 dell’ItalianNavy. Deve prestare soccorso immediato!“.

„E‘ necessario un intervento urgente“, afferma Mediterranea Saving Human sottolineando che „in zona“ c’è la nave „P490 Cigala Fulgosi di @ItalianNavy“.
Anche Sea Watch, che ieri ha lanciato l’allarme dopo l’avvistamento del gommone da parte di un aereo, chiede che i migranti a bordo siano immediatamente soccorsi. „Queste persone sono in pericolo da ore. Ci stiamo rifiutando di vederle“.
