Nach der Verhaftung des Präsidenten der Fischergesellschaft in Zarzis und fünf seiner Kollegen 20 Seemeilen vor Lampedusa und ihre Verbringung in Haft auf Sizilien fand heute eine Protestdemonstration in Tunis statt. Die tunesischen Fischer hatten 14 tunesische Schiffbrüchige gerettet und 20 Seemeilen vor Lampedusa der italienischen Küstenwache übergeben (FFM-Online berichtete). Today, more than 200 people gathered in front of the Italian embassy in Tunis to demand the release of the 6 fishermen from Zarzis who have been arrested by the Italian government and accused of smuggling while they rescued people on a boat in distress. The protesters asked for the immediate release of the fishermen and for the Tunisian government to take a position against European policies of deterrence and criminalisation of rescue.
