Einem Bericht von Euronews vom 28.01.2019 zufolge hat Erdogan die Errichtung einer Safe Zone angekündigt:
Speaking in Istanbul, Erdogan also said nearly 300,000 Syrians had already returned and that he expected millions of Syrian nationals would return to the safe areas.
U.S. President Donald Trump announced in December the withdrawal of all U.S. troops from Syria and Erdogan subsequently said they had discussed setting up a 20-mile-deep safe zone in Syria along the border.
Al Jazeera berichtete am 02.02.2019 über das Flüchtlingslager Rukban, wo im Dezember mehrere Kinder gestorben sind.
In a remote part of Syria, nearly 50,000 people are trapped at the Rukban camp. They’re calling on the UN to provide a safe passage to rebel-controlled areas in the north.
The camp – near where the borders of Syria, Iraq and Jordan meet – has nominally been under US control, but the impending US withdrawal is causing concern that there will be no safe roads to the north and conditions in the camp have become unlivable.
