Sea Watch allowed to anchor off Syracuse as sea gets rougher
NGO rescue ship Sea Watch 3 has been allowed to anchor off Syracuse in Sicily by the Italian coastguard, as the sea conditions have worsened. The ship is carrying 47 migrants, which it rescued on January 19 in Libyan waters, and which since then has not been allowed to disembark them.

Die Sea Watch 3, die seit fünf Tagen auf der Suche nach einem Hafen ist, in dem die 47 geretteten Boat-people an Land gehen können, sucht nun am Rande italienischer Hoheitsgewässer Schutz vor Sturm und Unwetter. Innenminister Salvini ist bereit, Lebensmittel und Medikamente zu schicken, verweigert aber die Anlandung in italienischen Häfen. Und di Maio fordert die Sea Watch auf, Marseille anzusteuern und die Migrant*innen auf französischem Boden abzusetzen. Inzwischen haben Palermo und Neapel sich bereit erklärt, die Boat-people in ihrer Stadt aufzunehmen.
„Proteste im Sudan“
Ungeachtet der blutigen Niederschlagung der Massenproteste im Sudan setzt die Bundesregierung ihre Unterstützung für die dortige Regierung fort. Die Proteste, die bereits am 19. Dezember begonnen hatten, hatten sich zunächst gegen eine dramatische Erhöhung der Lebensmittel- und Treibstoffpreise gerichtet. Inzwischen fordern die Demonstranten längst auch den Rücktritt der Regierung, die für ihre brutale Repression berüchtigt ist.
